Set of 2 CFH GDM Haviland Limoges France SQUARE DESSERT PLATES Hand Painted
A Set of Two SQUARE DESSERT PLATES Hand Painted with Scenes of Nature, Butterflies, Greens and a Seashore Cliff with a Boat and Palm Tree. The rounded corners are gilded. Field Haviland & Gérard, Dufraisseix and Morel in Limoges, France, ca. Hallmarked on verso with underglaze green stamp for CFH GDM in a circle divided by a line and overglaze monogram with a date'87 which I believe represents the artist signature and 1887 date. In addition to the backstamp, one of the plates has impressed words that are too faint to read with clearly visible Dépose, 14 and 83 and a letter D. A plate in the exact same shape but with a different painting is shown on the Metropolitan Museum of Art, N. Website in the section of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts as an example of a hard-paste porcelain dish from a Factory Société Gérard, Dufraisseix and Morel 1881-90, accession number: 1999.133. The gold trim shows some scuff marks, one of the corners on the butterflies plate has a tiny ding as shown in the last picture, otherwise good condition, free of chips, or cracks. Approximate measurements: just under 7 inches wide by 1 inch height. Weight 1 lb 9 oz together. Please see the pictures and let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for your interest.
