POuyat Limoges Hand Painted Madame Lamballe Portrait Pink Rose & Gold Charger Beautiful porcelain charger with relief molded scrollwork border. Decorated with a hand painted central portrait of Madame de Lamballe in the center framed by gold gilt scrollwork. The overall background of the plate is ivory with gold gilt scrollwork, floral, and fleur de lis designs. With a border of green with pink rose garlands and blue ribbons. Gold gilding along the edge. Signed underneath the portrait Princess Therese JP. This is actually a portrait of Marie-Louise Therese, Madame De Lamballe. Marked on the reverse J. This is an underglaze whiteware mark used by Jean Pouyat in Limoges France between 1891 and 1932. Marked on the reverse J Pouyat Limoges in red. This is an overglaze decorating mark used by Jean Pouyat in Limoges France between 1900 and 1906.

Princess Marie-Louise Thérèse of Savoy-Carignan (8 September 1749 - 3 September 1792) was a member of a cadet branch of the House of Savoy. She was married at the age of 17 to Louis Alexandre de Bourbon-Penthièvre, Prince de Lamballe, the heir to the greatest fortune in France. After her marriage, which lasted a year, she went to court and became the confidante of Queen Marie Antoinette. She was killed in the massacres of September 1792 during the French Revolution.

Has some wear to the gilding along the edge, but otherwise good condition with no chips or cracks. Measures approximately 11 1/2 inches wide.
