DESCRIPTION: The renowned artist, Luc, has so beautifully painted a large adult quail standing regally among the dainty, pastel pink & white morning glory blooms. The light green leaves are tucked behind the blooms. The plate is washed in colors ranging from light yellow to light green to soft gray & brown. CONDITION: While this charger is classified as used, its condition is superb.
We can find no defects and very little wear. There is slight gold wear on the rim & a small scratch on the quail's beak. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, other scratches, crazing or hairlines. The wear on the gold appears to be age-appropriate and does not distract from the beauty of this charger. The charger is clean & white on the back and has the factory drilled hole to facilitate hanging.
DIMENSIONS: This charger has a diameter of 12 5/8" and a height of 1 5/8". HISTORY/MARKS: Madame Vue Paroutaud started the porcelain factory in 1895 at Limoges with her sons, Pierre and Paul, to manufacture white ware blanks. In 1902 it became known as Paroutaud Freres (P & P). By WWI, P & P had grown to three factories with 2 in Limoges & 1 in La Seynie.
After both brothers left in 1916, the company became Maiger & Cie, managed by A. One constant for Paroutaud Freres was the lack of any in house decorated blanks. Currently, the experts claim that no factory decorated P & P pieces have been identified. Blakeman & Henderson were not manufacturers or decorators of porcelain, but rather were importers in New York City of high quality decorated porcelain exclusively from Limoges, France. The B&H exporter's mark on this plate was used until 1910 according to Marks4Ceramics. Mary Frank Gaston in her book, Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd Edition, states Porcelain carrying the Blakeman & Henderson marks is always superbly decorated. She shows on page 63 a similar plate painted by Luc with a quail gamebird surrounded by daisies instead of morning glories. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
