Exquisite Decorative Set of 4 CREAM SOUP BOUILLON CUPS & SAUCERS. Pink FLOWERS w/Green Leaves, Hand Painted w/Raised Paint & GOLD Daubs, EMBOSSED, Smooth Rimmed & FLUTED from LS&S Lararus Straus & Sons in Limoges, France, circa 1890's-mid 1920's.

DESCRIPTION: The unique set was produced with beautiful hand painted pink flowers & green leaves. The pink flowers have white raised dots to look like stamens. Actually, there are several features that are truly eye-catching.

One is the double handles that are embossed and painted in stippled gold. Another is the gold daubs on both the cup and saucer. Two cups have pink washes, one has blue and one has green. For the saucers, two have blue washes and two have green washes. These look great being matched in any mixture desired.

This makes a beautiful display s et or can be used daily. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines.

There are no utensil marks & no wear to the gold. DIMENSIONS: The cups have a diameter of 3 1/4" with a height of 2 1/4". Handle to handle, the measurement is 4 7/8.

The saucers have a diameter of 5 1/2" with a height of 13/16". Is frequently incorrectly named as Lewis Straus & Sons. But, in fact, the company of Lazarus Straus & Sons was founded in 1869 and successfully specialized in the import and resale of glass and ceramics. By 1874, Nathan Straus (one of 4 sons of Lazarus) convinced Macys to allow the shop-in-shop chinaware departments in all their stores. So successful was the venture that they formed the U.

With expanding business, Lazarus Straus opened subsidiaries in France L. Limoges, a decorating studio and Bohemia while maintaining a glass importing business in London.

Lazarus died in 1898 and, by 1896, Nathan had full control of the business which he retained until 1930 when it closed. In 1924, he renamed the business Nathan Straus and Sons. The blue decorator overglaze mark on the cups is mark #1 in Mary Frank Gastons Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd Edition. This mark was used from 1891 to the mid 1920's.
