Exquisite Decorative Set of 6 DESSERT PLATES , 6 1/8" Diameter, Smooth Rimmed and Gold Trimmed, Artist Hand Painted & Signed " Ware, HANGING FRUITS. DESCRIPTION: The set was skillfully hand painted by the talented artist, Ware and signed on the back of 5 of the plates. The hanging fruits are very realistic looking as are the green leaves and brown stems. The fruits are: purple plums, purple blackberries w/white blooms, red currants, red strawberries, red cherries and multi-colored gooseberries.
The washes vary from blue to purple to yellow to red to green. The overall quality of the designs is quite professional and beautiful to behold. The artist's signature, Ware, is on the back of 5 of the 6 plates. In addition on the back of the purple plum plate, the artist painted a spray of 3 of the hanging plums.CONDITION: The condition of this decorative plate set is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is no rubbing to the paint. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines.

HISTORY/MARKS: The American-born David Haviland settled in Limoges, France in 1842 operating a porcelain exporting business to the USA. In 1847, he established a decorating studio in Limoges. He started producing porcelain in Limoges in 1865 and decorating it on site. His sons, Charles Edward and Theodore, continued the prosperous business after David's death in 1879.
Theodore left to establish his own firm in 1892. Charles Edward continued Haviland & Co. Until his death in 1921. In 1941, Theodore's son, William, was able to obtain the rights to the old Haviland & Co. Marks and molds and the company was reorganized as Haviland & Co. William retired in 1957 and the company was carried on by his sons. When the sons retired in 1972, management of the company was turned over to the Cerabati Group under the name of Haviland SA.
