DESCRIPTION: This plate was designed in a very classic pattern with hand painted flowers and green leaves by a talented studio artist. The overall quality of the design is quite professional. The rim is scalloped, embossed and painted a bold gold. The gold scrollwork seems to form cartouches to hold the flower sprays. The back of the plate is the high white of the porcelain. CONDITION: While this plate is classified as used, its condition is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, flakes, nicks, cracks, scratches, crazing or hairlines. There is no wear to the paint. The gold on the rim appears solid and glossy. DIMENSIONS: The plate has a diameter of 9 3/4" and a height of 1 1/8". HISTORY/MARKS: The Pouyat family was one of the oldest French names associated with the porcelain in the Limoges region dating all the way back to the 1700's. Jean Pouyat began a company in 1842 at Limoges and the business was carried on by his sons after his death in 1849. About 1883, the company became known as La Ceramique. The now famous JPL backstamps were used beginning in 1851.
