Haviland Set of 2 Plates Ranson Mold Artist O. Rider VIOLETS and NASTURTIUMS, Ranson Blank #1 mold, Artist reversed trim colors of GREEN & GOLD. DESCRIPTION: This is a most eye-catching set. The flowers are beautifully done, but the most interesting feature is in the trimwork.
The Ranson mold has a scalloped and embossed feature with 8 of the indented areas. The nasturtium plate has gold on the outside trim and the dark green on the indentions. The violet plate has the dark green on the outside trim and the gold on the indentions. This makes a dramatic display.
We attribute both plates to the same artist based on the style and quality of painting. Only the nasturtium plate is signed by the artist, O. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, we can find no chips, nicks, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. On the nasturtium plate, there is a small rubbed spot on the gold on the raised area of the embossing. On photo #6, this is between 9 & 10 o'clock on the gold rim.
This really is hardly visible looking straight on at the plate and certainly does not detract from its beauty. Otherwise, there appears to be no wear to the gold and no wear to the colors and no crazing. DIMENSIONS: Each plate has a diameter of 8 5/8" and a height of 1".
