E. Adam Theodore Haviland Limoges Four Hand Painted Art Nouveau Plates Orchids
A lovely set of four hand painted porcelain plates painted by E. Adam for Theodore Haviland in Limoges, France, c1900. Each of the plates features a different species of orchid, all of which are named on the back in their Latin name. The plate is further decorated with a whiplash pattern typical for the Art Nouveau period. The shape of the plates are the same as made for the Ulysses S. Grant dinner service, made by Haviland in 1871. Each plate has a diameter of 21.5 cm. The are all signed Haviland & co, E.
Adam, and with their respective names: Epidendrum Wallisi, Miltonia, Odontoglossum Wilekeanum and Odontoglossum Cirrhosum.
