DESCRIPTION: This plate was designed in a very classic pattern with a hand painted pink & white poppy bloom proudly displayed above the green leaves by a talented artist, Lamour. The overall quality of the design is quite professional. The poppy, leaves and vines are outlined in gold to give depth to the painting. There is a wavy light green line next to the gold on the rim to give the effect of the hairy poppy stems.
Additionally, there is also a thin gold line next to the light green wavy line. Part of this is outlined in bold black. The back of the plate is the high white of the porcelain. CONDITION: While this plate is classified as used, its condition is superb.
We can find no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. There is no wear to the paint or gold. DIMENSIONS: The plate has a diameter of 8 7/8" and a height of 1 1/4". HISTORY/MARKS: George Borgfeldt operated a New York importing company specializing in high end decorated porcelain from Limoges, France and Bavaria, Germany.
Borgfeldt established art studios in both France and Germany. The French Studio trademarked Coronet was located in Paris, but the white ware for this plate was manufactured in Limoges. Mary Frank Gaston in Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition, refers to the decorator mark on this plate as mark #2 and dates it to 1920+.
It also has the overglaze red script mark stating "Hand Painted". This sets the circa to the early 1920+ time period. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
