This is a Limoges France Decorator Plate, artist signed "MAX". It features the Oriental Pheasant. Perfect décor piece for the Victorian era country home, or for any home where game birds are admired.
The colors are still vibrant, and the main condition flaw is that the gold gilt paint around the edge has rubbed away in some spots. In trying to find out information about the artist, who was a prolific painter of wildlife for Limoges plates in this era, I consulted Mary Gaston's The Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, Second Edition.
We learn that the plates were decorated in Limoges. And that "Max" is among the artists.Several of his pieces are in the Gaston book. Other than the spots where the gilt has rubbed away from the rim, is in good condition with no chips nor cracks. Hole along the top of the plate on the back, which can be threaded with twine to hang on the wall. This item is in the category "Pottery & Glass\Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware\Plates".
