A Lanternier Limoges Hand Painted Portrait Plates Set/6 French Royalty Signed

  

This listing is for an exceptionally rare 19th Century A. Lanternier Limoges set of six (6) cabinet plates depicting hand-painted portraits of French royalty. Imagine these fully hand-painted portraits of Frances most iconic royalty on your wall or in your china cabinet! The portraits were expertly executed by the Limoges artist, Detaille, who signed each of these six miniature masterpieces.

The plates depict the following French royals: King Louis XVI, Queen Marie Antoinette, Duke and Duchess of Bourgogne, Madame Lavalliere, and Madame Lamballe. Each portrait is set against a blue-gray shadowy background. The cabinet plates are primarily white with lavish gilt decorations around the rims.

The artists representations of these royals are quite lovely and unique! You will never find another set with these one-of-a-kind portraits! This plate set is in very good condition, but two plates have imperfections.

The Duke of Bourgogne plate has two small chips on the lower right side of its rim with old repairs and the Mme Lamballe plate has been broken and repaired with other damages (please see photographs). The other plates are in excellent, preowned condition. Each plate measures 6 inches in diameter and includes a wall plate hanger. On the backs, these Sevres style plates are marked A. Lanternier Limoges France, in red, as well as with the anchor AL mark, in green, which denotes production during the 1890s.
