Offered is this exquisite set of FOUR place settings of hand-painted Haviland china. The design features a border pattern of pink and yellow roses on an ivory band encircled by an engraved band of wide gold trim around the outside edge. The white blank is Ranson, Schleiger no. 1, which is characterized by a gently scalloped rim.
This whiteware was made in Limoges, France. The mark indicates the porcelain was produced between 1896 and 1931. A few serving pieces are marked GDA Haviland or show a Bavarian mark.
The china would have been decorated in an art studio or by an individual artist. Several items are signed Lashbrook, who may have painted all the pieces. Because there are no decorator marks, the set probably was not painted by Haviland. China painting reached its zenith in the early 1900s and became rare after World War II.
