Limoges Gd And Cie Hand Painted Artist Signed Set Of 12 Fish Plates    Limoges Gd And Cie Hand Painted Artist Signed Set Of 12 Fish Plates

GD & CIE LIMOGES HAND PAINTED ARTIST SIGNED SET OF 12 FISH PLATES. We have the privilege to offer you this gorgeous set of G. Limoges hand painted and artist signed, set of 12 fish plates. The plates measure 8 1/2 in diameter and are Circa 1891. The green underglaze mark with 2 circles and a star in the center is F.

Legrand and the 2 overglaze marks are the decorator GD & Cie G. And the importer or retailer, Higgins and Seiter, New York. There are different fish on all the 12 plates swimming gracefully either from the left or from the right with plant life dangling from the top and gorgeous flowers blooming up from the bottom.

The water is a beautiful mix of blue and green/yellow. All 12 plates are hand painted with a gorgeous lime green color on the outer part of the plates with beautiful gold trim and border. You will see the artists signature on the same side the fish are swimming from.

I believe the artist to be Lalany. Gold wear commensurate to age. The hand painting on this set is exceptional and they are in immaculate condition having no chips, hairlines or cracks.

This set is looking for a wonderful home, limoges or fish collector to go to. This set would look gorgeous in a Country setting, possibly above a fireplace or a hutch in a post and beam dining room. We will break it down for you upon end of sale in the invoice. If you have any questions or concerns, we are easy to get along with. As most people know, these pieces become more beautiful with age because of movements and distress in the woods, some having restoration.

Spindle turnings will not be uniform and swell unevenly with age. Woods tend to get stress fractures on support systems and where wide board construction is used. 85% of 18th Century veneers have had some restoration during their life. Pine secondary woods might fracture, making overlays and veneers have the same fracture lines. Old finishes might alligator, fade, fisheye or darken, depending on where the pieces was placed.

All of these are desired by a true collector and gives it personality. Do not expect these early pieces to be like new. These pieces age gracefully just as we do, giving them unique personality.

We do our best to describe and photograph all items thoroughly, but handle a quantity of pieces every day and might miss something. We know if they tick, run, move and are in tune with the quality of sound, but offer no guarantees on these items.
