This listing is for a very rare set made by GDA France limoges. Gerard, Dufraisseix & Abbott in the early 1900's. The set is comprised of 16 pieces - 1 teapot (with lid), sugar bowl (with lid), creamer, teapot trivet and 5 cups and saucers. The pattern is hand painted by artist MC Merrick and is signed on the creamer and sugar bowl.

The pattern features delicate violets with greenery and a rust red coloring. The handles are what make this set just over the top - double loop handles on everything, even as the finials for the teapot and sugar bowl lids, in gold and the colors maroon, purple and blue which compliments the pattern so well.. Everything is trimmed in gilt. The porcelain is thin and delicate. Very rare set to have for any collector.

There are no chips, cracks or crazing on any pieces. Teapot length from handle to spout: 7-1/4. Creamer length from handle to spout: 4. Sugar bowl length from handle to handle: 5-1/2. Teacup diameter (not including handle): 3-1/2.

Saucer diameter: a little over 5-1/2. In 1881 Charles Field Haviland retired, and his company was taken over by new owners: Emile Gerard, Jean-Baptiste Dufraisseix and Morel , who retired from the company ca. Gerard became a director of the company, J. Dufraisseix - decorator, and Morel developed the technique of color. Together they contributed to improve the efficiency and development of the company.

After the departure of Morel, the company continued to operate as: Gerard & Dufraisseix to 1900. Then joined as a partner Edgar Abbot , which earlier was involved in the import of porcelain, together with C.

The company was known at the time as: Porcelaines GDA. In 1929, G-D-A bought a failing company < Haviland & Co. > and the right to use the decorating mark and some models, which in 1941 repurchased the company, < Robert Haviland & C. Around 1970, to the name of the company added the Royal Limoges.

In 1981 the old factory was destroyed by fire, and in 1987 recognized as a historical object. Another fire destroyed the factory in 2001, which resulted in sale of shares and reorganization. The company operates today at 28 rue Donzelot and has a modern factory in Dorat near Limoges.
